Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum

Standing punishment cell. This cell has has most of the front wall removed to allow visitors to view the space which is 31.5 inches square,  it has a small entrance door, about a half metre square, at floor level. It looked big enough to, if not lay down stretched out, at least lay down curled up or sitting untill we were told it was a nine person cell so there was no choice but to stand, particularly as there were no sanitary facilities. Not many prisoners survived a spell in this place.
